In a bid to tackle misinformation surrounding potatoes on social media platforms, Potatoes USA, the marketing branch for U.S.-grown potatoes, is developing an artificial intelligence tool. The initiative aims to address common misconceptions and promote accurate information about potatoes.

Shugaba na Potatoes USA, Blair Richardson, highlighted the role of AI in monitoring social media discussions related to potatoes. The AI system will analyze sentiments on platforms like Twitter, sifting through thousands of daily tweets. Richardson emphasized the prevalence of misinformation, including claims such as potatoes causing weight gain or being unsuitable for individuals with diabetes, which are scientifically unfounded.

Drawing on research conducted by the Alliance for Potato Research and Education over the past 15 years, Potatoes USA plans to leverage this knowledge base to provide informed responses to inaccuracies surrounding potatoes. By utilizing a combination of industry-funded research and external studies, the organization aims to counter false narratives and promote the nutritional benefits of potatoes.
